Social Security Benefits - SSD and SSI
Social
Security Disability and Supplemental
Security Income are intended to be a
financial safety net to provide workers with
benefits in the event they become disabled and
can no longer work.
Social Security Disability benefits are
not a government handout. Social Security
Disability Insurance is an insurance program
operated by the federal government which allows
individuals who meet certain criteria to apply
and receive Social Security Disability Insurance
benefits.
(SSDI).
Social Security
Disability Insurance replaces lost wages in the
event of a disability.
Social Security Disability Insurance is
intended to replace wages that are lost when a
person is no longer able to work and earn an
income as a result of an illness, injury or
condition that leaves you disabled for at least
twelve months or longer. The illness, injury or
condition may or may not be as a result of an
injury at work. If you are considered an
"insured" under Social Security criteria, that
is, if you have worked long enough and paid
Social Security taxes, you and certain family
members may be entitled to be paid benefits.
Your Disability
may be as a result of a work related injury or
other illness or condition.
A worker who has paid into Social Security over
time may be eligible for benefits when a
disability, whether because of a work injury or
an illness or condition, makes it impossible
to work any longer. Your particular medical
condition must meet the definition of
"disability" in accordance with Social Security
regulations.
All to often too many individuals who apply for
Social Security Disability benefits
are denied when they make an application for
these benefits.
In the event your initial application is denied,
time is of the essence, you need to act quickly.
A Request for Reconsideration must be filed
within sixty days of when you receive your
initial denial notice.

Do not be discouraged if you have had your
disability (SSD) claim denied. Please contact
Attorney Coreen M. Sedor for a free initial
consultation, she may be able to help you
through this process.
The Reconsideration appeal procedure is the
first step available when you are denied Social
Security Disability benefits. Although sometime
it is possible to be successful in your benefits
claim at the Reconsideration level, there is a
strong likelihood that you will again be denied
benefits, just as you were when you first
applied for Disability benefits.
If your Reconsideration request is also denied,
your next appeal option is a Request for an
Administrative Law Hearing. Historically, it is
at the Administrative Law Hearing that you have
the best opportunity of successfully obtaining
Social Security Disability benefits, after
having been denied at the previous levels of
applying for benefits.
The Request for an Administrative Law Hearing
must be filed within sixty (60) days of when
your receive notice that your Reconsideration
was denied. At an Administrative Law Hearing you
are provided the opportunity to present
additional evidence to support your claim for
benefits, to refute the Social Security
Administration’s objections, and to present
testimony.
You need the right attorney to make a difference
in the presentation of your case.
At the law office of Attorney Coreen M. Sedor,
she will work with you throughout the Disability
benefits claims process, from the initial filing
through hearing and appeals, if necessary.
She will work with you to gather your medical
records, take control of and direct the focus on
the important issues of your claim to the Social
Security Administration and will present your
case before an Administrative Law Judge.
Attorney Sedor can help you understand these
complex issues and be successful with the
outcome of your disability claim.

Disability benefits and meet certain income

well as blind or disabled persons of any age,
including children. In addition, the individual
